All-state quarterback Marques Ivory, thought to be lost for the season after suffering a broken left leg in a game Oct. 19, has been cleared to return for Northside in Friday’s Class AAAA semifinal against Tucker at the Georgia Dome, his coach said Thursday.

The Newnan Cougars and Lady Cougars play their home openers tonight against Northgate, while in other local games East Coweta travels to Hiram and Heritage visits Arlington Christian in Fairburn. The Newnan girls, who played three games in the preseason Mount Zion Tournament before facing Douglas County and Tri-Cities on the road, come in at 3-2. The Cougars, who bypassed a pre-season tourney and opened with wins at Douglas County and Tri-Cities, are 2-0.
