As we watched the BCS madness unfold last weekend, using computers, polls and tea leaves to sort out who gets to play for the national title, we at Take Ten gave thanks for the high school playoffs that settle things on the field. But we couldn’t help but think: “How different would Georgia high school football look if we scrapped the brackets and used a BCS-style formula to set up the matchups?”
McEachern coach Dorsey resigns | ajc.com
McEachern’s Jim Dorsey, the winningest coach in Cobb County football history, resigned Wednesday after 24 seasons at the Powder Springs school, where he won 219 games. Dorsey, 54, took over a program that hadn’t had a winning season in 12 years and built it into a state power, winning 40 straight regular-season games from 1986-89. In 1998, McEachern became the first Cobb school in 31 years to reach a state championship game.

Lassiter football coach Greg Dirst resigned Tuesday following back-to-back 3-7 seasons with the Trojans. Dirst, who compiled a record of 18-22 in four years at Lassiter, went 6-4 in each of his first two years before two straight losing campaigns.

Playing at home, South entered the final period with a 45-23 advantage and held on to win, 57-45.
