Powell scores 20 off bench in season opener | timesherald.com
Russell Powell may have had Newnan written across his chest Saturday night, but he should’ve had a big, red “S” instead for the Cougar basketball team’s season opener against the Douglas County Tigers. Having thrown for more than 300 yards in Friday’s playoff loss that ended his football season, Powell came off the bench and scored 20 points to lead the Cougars to a 62-50 win.

Home opener tonight | griffindailynews.com
Griffin High School’s boys and girls basketball teams will play their first home game tonight against Region 4-AAAA opponent Jonesboro. For Bears coach Calvin Sinkfield, the home game comes at the perfect time. Griffin’s boys team (0-2 overall) lost its first two games of the season, and Sinkfield hopes the atmosphere inside the Griffin gymnasium gives his players a spark.
