Class A
Biggest Surprise: Less than close games. All of the games were decided by more than one score except for the Athens Academy matchup. Look for the two games this week to feature a more closely contested slate.
Biggest Upset: Wilcox over Lincoln County. Lincoln County disappointed fans and analysts alike with their loss against the Patriots, a team that most around the state underestimated.
Predictions: Athens Academy over Wilcox, Emmanuel County Institute over Warren County
Class 2A
Biggest Surprise: Living up to the hype. Buford and Charlton County more than lived up to the hype it provided as the game came down to the wire. The final of 21-14 was indicative of how hard fought the contest actually was.
Biggest Upset: Cook over GAC. Cook provided the lone upset across the state. My prediction was in line with the outcome.
Predictions: Buford over Dublin, Lovett over Cook
Class 3A
Biggest Surprise: Cairo’s beatdown of Carver-Atlanta. The Syrupmakers made noise across the state with their huge 48-6 win over Carver-Atlanta. This wasn’t an upset as much as it was a huge surprise all over the state.
Biggest Upset:No real upsets here as all of the teams predicted prevailed. This week it could be a different story however, as both games are toss ups on paper.
Predictions: North Hall over Cairo, Carver-Columbus over Chamblee
Class 4A
Biggest Surprise: Two shutouts in the quarters?? Blowouts all around?? Those are the big questions after this weekend. All of the dominant teams facing off this week should make for some great action.
Biggest Upset: Thomas County Central over East Paulding. The Raiders were blindsided by Thomas County snapping their undefeated streak. East Paulding disappointed in this game.
Predictions: Northside WR over Tucker, Thomas County Central over Ware County
Class 5A
Biggest Surprise:
Biggest Upset: Walton over M.L. King. In our eyes, the biggest upset in the state. The Lions were talented and poised to make run at the crown, instead they are going home for the season.
Predictions: Camden County over Lowndes, N. Gwinnett over Walton
That’s it for me right now - enjoy next week’s playoffs post your thoughts here.
Hit em’ Hard,
