Time and time again this season, Will Callaway has clutched the ball by his side and hung on with all his might. He’s pummeled through defenses and reached his stride for Athens Academy. Defending champs cast as underdogs | ajc.com
They’re defending champions, but three of Georgia’s top high school football teams are underdogs Friday night in the state quarterfinals. Roswell (10-2), a 2006 co-champion in Class AAAAA, travels to Lowndes to play the champion from 2004 and 2005. Lowndes has won 19 of its past 20 home playoff games. Charlton County, the three-time champ in Class AA, plays undefeated Buford, the No. 1-ranked team. Buford’s closest win this season has been 21-0.

If there is a consolation in Colquitt County’s 2-8 record this season, it could be that it came against a schedule this is proving to have been more difficult than many may have believed. Eight of the Packers 2007 opponents – nine if one counts scrimmage foe Cairo – qualified for the postseason this year and only two – Tift County and Lee County – lost in the first round.

CLASS STRUGGLE: Finances, travel make Class AAAAA best choice for Chatham’s public schools | savannahmorningnews.com
Jenkins High School baseball coach Seth Gaspin knows his team will be underdogs before the first pitch is tossed every season. He also knows winning and losing is more often decided by the size of the fight in the dog rather than the size of the dog in the fight.
