One great move
| augustachronicle.com

He’s blessed with an extra gear of speed. It’s topped off with a start-stop action that makes defenders hope the press box camera man sneezed. That jerk of the camera would save the humbling from being captured on film.

Roswell settles a score, nips Peachtree Ridge
| ajc.com

Overtime is exactly what Roswell wanted against Peachtree Ridge. The Hornets just had to wait a year to get it. The teams that shared the Class AAAAA championship in 2006 met in the second round of the playoffs Friday night, and the ending couldn’t have been more poetic. It couldn’t have been more undecided, either.

No fluke: N. Gwinnett beats Brookwood again
| ajc.com

From opening kickoff to the final horn Friday night, North Gwinnett showed its one-point victory over the Broncos in the second week of the season — Brookwood’s last defeat before nine straight wins — was not a fluke. As the Broncos got better each week, so, apparently, did the Bulldogs, and to the chagrin of Brookwood, it all came together in the AAAAA second-round game.

Buford wins, aims for Charlton
| ajc.com

Murray rushed for four touchdowns and 125 yards on seven carries to set up a showdown better suited for the AA finals. Charlton County, a 26-12 winner over Fitzgerald on Friday, has ended Buford’s season three consecutive years en route to three AA titles. But this is arguably the best Buford squad coach Rich McWhorter’s Indians have seen.

Tucker rolls into quarterfinals
| ajc.com

Tucker matched Northwest Whitfield’s 95-yard kickoff return to open the game with a 95-yarder of its own on the Bruins’ ensuing kickoff, then allowed Northwest only a 22-yard field goal in dominating the Class AAAA second-round contest 56-10 at Adams Stadium.

Henry Co.’s record season ends
| ajc.com

Brandon Lee and Darryl Benton — two of the team’s 23 seniors — had a hand in all five Westover touchdowns in the Patriots’ 33-21 victory at Henry County on Friday night in the second round of the Class AAA state playoffs. Westover (8-4) will make its first-ever visit to the state quarterfinals in football next week against Chamblee.

Henry Co.’s record season ends

No. 6 Walton doesn’t do anything fancy. It’s obvious the Raiders are going to pound away with J.J. Jackson and pop Billy Burns here and there. But after a 37-28 win over No. 9 Harrison to earn a spot in next week’s AAAAA quarterfinals, the formula is one that coach Ed Dudley is going to keep using.

RB Jones helps King stay perfect
| ajc.com

Behind 134 yards and 3 touchdowns from running back Cordellaro Jones, No. 2 M.L. King remained the only undefeated team in Class AAAAA by holding off Valdosta 21-18 in the second round of the state tournament. The Lions won their 12th game for the first time in school history and became the first DeKalb County team to ever defeat the Wildcats (9-3).

Fayette can’t hold off Bainbridge
| ajc.com

Fayette County’s historic season ended on the wrong end of fortune Friday night as visiting Bainbridge (9-3) came back from a 10-point, fourth-quarter deficit to win 28-24 in a Class AAAA second-round game. The Bearcats’ game-winner came on senior Ramadon Jimoh-Osi’s 4-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nick Williams with 37 seconds remaining. Jimoh-Osi was able to latch onto the third-down pass in the back end of the end zone after senior tight end Brandon Groomes tipped the ball.

Early test for three-time AA champ
| ajc.com

In a perfect football world, fourth-ranked Fitzgerald and No. 2 Charlton County would be playing in the Georgia Dome two weeks from now, rather than tonight. Charlton coach Rich McWhorter will hear none of that. “I would not agree with that at all,” said McWhorter, who has won or shared the past three Class AA titles. “We are not the same team we were last year. Replacing 19 seniors with 19 freshmen is not a good trade. If somebody had told me before the year that we’d play Fitzgerald in the second round, I’d say you’re crazy. We’re just happy to still be practicing.”

Wolf leads North Hall into quarterfinals
| accessnorthga.com

With his team looked in a scoreless duel at halftime, North Hall senior Hunter Wolf decided to take matters into his own hands Friday night against Sandy Creek in the second round of the Class AAA football playoffs.
