Georgia High School Association executive director Ralph Swearngin said his office is still collecting data from the Class AAAA football game between Mays and Cedar Shoals that led to eight players being ejected. The three players from Mays will have to sit out Friday’s second round playoff game at East Paulding because of the ejections. Swearngin said they received the game officials’ report and a report from City of Atlanta athletics director Billete Owens-Ashford.

Richard Gillespie’s attempt to revive the football program at his struggling alma mater ended on Tuesday morning. That’s when the Duluth head football coach turned in his resignation letter, ending a four-year run with the Wildcats, who were 1-9 this past season and didn’t score more than 14 points in a game all season. Their lone win of 2007 was a 7-0 victory over winless Meadowcreek.

After just one week into the Georgia High School Association football state playoffs, only two local teams remain standing. Not only are Savannah Country Day and Savannah Christian the only squads to emerge victorious Friday night, but both schools are among the only city squads, including Windsor Forest, to have even made the postseason the last two years.
