| waltontribune.com

Buford QB questionable for playoff opener
| ajc.com

“I feel a lot better about it now than I did last night,” a relieved Simpson. said Saturday. “The doctor told me the best-case scenario would be that he’d play Friday night; the worse case would be he’d be out for a week and a half.” The latter prognosis would have Hosch back in time for a possible quarterfinal showdown with No. 2 Charlton County, the team that has ended Buford’s season three consecutive years.

Undefeated Fayette Co. getting no breaks in playoffs
| ajc.com

Fayette County is claiming its first region championship and 10-0 record in its 50th season of football, but the Tigers aren’t getting any breaks in the playoffs. Fayette, ranked No. 6 in Class AAAA, must face a higher-ranked team Friday night when No. 4 Baldwin comes to Fayetteville for the first round. Despite an 8-1 record, Baldwin wound up as the No. 4 seed from 4-AAAA because of the oddities of a subdivided region. Baldwin’s only loss is to top-ranked Northside of Warner Robins.

One of the all-time emergence-from-obscurity tales reached a crescendo late Saturday night: Brookwood’s Kenny Miles was offered and accepted a scholarship offer from South Carolina, the senior running back told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Sunday. Miles, who played special teams for the Broncos as a sophomore and was a seldom-used backup last season, burst into prominence as the starter this year. The 226 yards he amassed against rival Parkview Friday gave him 2,137 yards on the season.

Reclassification numbers posted

For Cartersville athletic director and head football coach Frank Barden, even with the numbers out, he’s not banking on anything yet.
