Landmark Christian senior running back Walter Lenard was voted the AJC player of the week following his solid performance in last week’s victory over Eagle’s Landing Christian. More than 43 percent of the 1,400 voters chose Lenard and his 390-yard, four-touchdown effort in his team’s 35-30 victory. Dunwoody’s Corey White placed second in the voting followed by Henry County’s Drew Little and Dacula’s Cisco Barry.

Valdosta High School has had a lot of great athletes over the years. Enough now for its own Hall of Fame. The Valdosta Sports Hall of Fame will induct its first class Thursday at the James H. Rainwater Convention Center. “This event is designed to recognize the contribution Valdosta individuals have made to the rich athletic tradition our community is known for,” said a statement released by the Valdosta Touchdown Club, the sponsor of the event.

When Nicole Yancey first picked up a softball bat at age 10, she certainly wasn’t a natural at the sport. Hitting, especially, proved rather troublesome. “I used to not be able to hit at all,” Yancey said. “I couldn’t ever hit the ball out of the infield.” Wow, several years later, the Central High School junior still has that problem.
