Those are the situations for the county’s four high school football teams as the regular season comes to a close Friday. George Walton Academy has clinched a GISA playoff berth and could finish second in the region with a win Thursday night at Riverside Military Academy. Both Bulldog teams have lost only to undefeated Tattnall Square. The victor will host a first-round postseason contest next week.

SW DeKalb’s Godfrey a guiding force
| ajc.com

Most every evening after practice, Southwest DeKalb iconic football coach Buck Godfrey holds court at the Dunkin Donuts on Candler Road, an emperor sipping coffee among his people. He talks of fishing and baseball and literature and history and, occasionally, if you’re fortunate, even a little football. It is here, at a table near the bathroom, and not on the sideline, where Godfrey feels most comfortable — chopping it up with an interchangeable group of hard-working men whose allegiance to each other is unshakeable.

Wildcats are still staying positive

When you’re 1-8 and have been riddled by injuries all season, it might be hard to get excited about a Tuesday practice during the last week of the regular season. However, the Woodland Wildcats have done anything but mail it in, hitting the field Tuesday with an enthusiasm one usually sees during the first few weeks of practice, not the last few weeks of the year. “Practice has been going as well as it always has,” said Woodland coach Steve Hamilton. “If you watched us practice and didn’t know our record, you’d never believe that we’re 1-8. The kids are staying positive and working hard.

Lewis’ big runs help Falcons to first playoff berth in four years
| courierherald.com

Terrence Lewis had a big smile on his face Monday. It’s the same smile that seemed to be on every Falcon player as they got ready for practice. The reason for those smiles is the fact that East Laurens secured a Class AA playoff spot by beating Vidalia 34-20. In that game, Lewis had two touchdown runs of 58 and 51 yards as he finished the night with 154 yards on 16 carries

Playoff dreams and the end of the road

Word around West Laurens must be going something like this: “We beat Dublin. We beat East Laurens. And all we got was this stinking County Championship t-shirt.” While Dublin and East Laurens make postseason preparations, the Raiders are stuck with Eagles Landing for the fourth time in two years. (We’ll get to them in a bit).
