‘Homegrown’ Warriors shut down Laney offense
| augustachronicle.com

That seems right after Jefferson County’s 14-0 win at Laney on Friday. Jefferson County coach J.B. Arnold said last week he’d bring a bus of “homegrowns” from his area to take on a team with two key transfers he dubbed the “CSRA All-Stars.” The Warriors (6-2-1) capitalized on four turnovers. Short fields after special team errors gave Jefferson 30 and 34-yard scoring drives to secure the win

Surprise twists to penultimate week
| ajc.com

Chattahoochee has taken out perennial power Camden County and last year’s Class AAAAA co-champion Roswell this season. But in the game that would’ve given the Cougars the 6-AAAAA Division B subregion title, they couldn’t withstand Centennial, a team which needed a win simply to ensure its first winning season in four years.

Mays receiver eyes Tech, Kentucky, N.C.
| ajc.com

Georgia Tech, Kentucky and North Carolina lead the pack for Mays receiver Corey Heard. But Rich Brooks’ Wildcats may have a slight edge. “I really like the coaches at Kentucky, especially [offensive coordinator] Joker Phillips,” said Heard, who is scheduled to attend the Tennessee-Kentucky game in Lexington on Nov. 24.

Dogs recruit Avery wants teammate to join him
| ajc.com

Georgia-bound running back Xavier Avery continues to lobby for uncommitted Cedar Grove teammate Josh Jarboe to join him in Athens. “We’ve been together since the first grade,” said Jarboe, one of the Peach State’s top wide receiver prospects. “We always like to stick together.

Alexander trips Woodland, 17-10
| dailytribune.com

The Alexander Cougars and Woodland Wildcats were tied at 10 with 6:45 to go in their Region 5-AAAA game Friday night at Wildcat Stadium. Woodland had just punted the ball to Alexander and the Cougars took over on their own 12-yard line. That was when Jarrod Wallace took over for the Cougars, carrying the ball three times for 48 yards on the drive and capping it off with a 2-yard touchdown run with 2:21 to go to lift Alexander to a hard-fought 17-10 victory over Woodland.

Indians thump Adairsville
| dailytribune.com

Each of the last two seasons, the Adairsville Tigers have been one win away from a berth in the state playoffs. However, both times the Chattooga Indians proved to be too high a hurdle, as Chattooga beat Adairsville, 35-7, Friday night at Little Big Horn Stadium in Summerville to wrap up a playoff berth and eliminate the Tigers from postseason contention.

Scenarios a bit clearer going into final week
| dailytribune.com

Heading into the final week of the regular season, the football playoff appears to be marginally clearer for the Cherokee County contenders. In Class AAAAA, Etowah’s chances for the postseason remain anything but final. Despite a narrow 28-21 loss Friday to Region 5AAAAA champ North Cobb to move the Eagles to 6-3 (4-3 region), Etowah is tied with Kennesaw Mountain for the fourth and final berth to the playoffs.

Newton on verge of worst season since ’97
| rockdalecitizen.com

The Douglass Astros made a good impression on the alumni for homecoming at the expense of the Newton Rams on Friday at Lakewood Stadium. The Astros (6-3 overall, 4-2 Region 2-AAAAA) found the end zone in seven of their nine possessions while holding the Rams (1-8, 1-5) to fewer than 130 yards of total offense in the 47-0 shutout. If the Rams lose next week against Union Grove, it will be their worst season since 1997 when they went 1-9 under coach Joe Brasfield.

Wolves lose on road, 65-17
| timesgeorgian.com

The University of West Georgia’s excruciating three-game road stretch to close out the season didn’t get any easier Saturday, as it fell to No. 10 North Alabama, 65-17, marking the most points the Wolves have ever allowed in the all-time series with UNA. Coming off their first loss of the season last week, the Lions broke open a 23-10 halftime contest and quickly turned it into a second-half rout at Braly Municipal Stadium in Florence, Ala., outscoring the Wolves 42-7 in the second half and finishing with 542 yards of total offense.

Cobras excited about challenge vs. Lincoln
| courierherald.com

“It’s going to be an exciting one,” said Cobras head coach Dexter Copeland. “Every time we play them it’s very competitive. Lincoln County is just like they always are. They are tough, big and strong. They have a real good quarterback this year and a real good wide receiver. Their defensive front is probably the best defensive front I’ve seen in a while. They are 270 across the front and we just don’t know what we’re going to do.

Indians staying focused, even with Irish on horizon
| courierherald.com

In most cases, tonight’s matchup with Toombs County would receive the usual “trap game” label. (Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Lyons) Dodge County, (7-1, 4-0) is one week and one win away from a 4-AA title rematch with rival, and fellow undefeated, Dublin. But the Indians, winners of four straight—all shutout victories by 28 or more points—have continued to keep the same business-like approach they used at the start of preseason.
