Hornets buzzing back to life | augustachronicle.com
The Hornets (5-5) are an area Frankenstein. The boys in green have resurrected themselves with four wins in five games. A rousing 34-9 victory against North Augusta should throw a big scare into their cross-town rival.

Win over Greene a critical one for playoff position | newsreporter.com
Following a week of and some much-needed healing and recovery time, the Washington-Wilkes Tigers will return to action this Friday night when they host the Tigers of Greene County in the final regular region game of the season. A win for the W-W Tigers will earn them a No. 2 berth in the region playoff on November 9 while a loss would put them in third place in Region 8AA South.
Win over Greene critical for desirable playoff berth | newsreporter.com
The confusing playoff system for Region 8AA is too much trouble for anyone to have to understand but after getting explanations from at least three sources, The News-Reporter, may have it figured out enough to give its readers a pretty good idea of where the Washington-Wilkes Tigers might be headed over the next three weeks.

Take 10: Best surprise games | ajc.com
At Take Ten, we love a good surprise. Even as kids, we didn’t go snooping through the closets looking for our Christmas presents because we’d rather tear off the shiny paper and find out Christmas morning. (“Ooooo … an Ewok Village!”) So, naturally, we enjoy it when games turn out how we didn’t expect. This year, like pretty much every year before it, has given us its share of surprises: Chattahoochee over Camden County, Avondale over Greater Atlanta Christian, Sandy Creek over Carrollton. Who’da thunk it?
Metro teams can end long playoff droughts | ajc.com
For many of the traditional powers, including Harrison, Lowndes, Northside-Warner Robins and Buford, it’s just another time to prepare for yet another state playoff run. But other teams are trying to use the last two weeks of the regular season to establish themselves as successful programs. These are teams that have never been to the postseason or are looking to put an end to significant playoff droughts.
Cartersville, Carrollton square off Friday | dailytribune.com
To find the last time the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes lost three straight football games, you have to go back to 1997, when the Canes lost their final three games to finish the season 2-8. After a double-overtime setback at the hands of Cedartown two weeks ago and a 47-12 whipping at Villa Rica last week, Cartersville’s state playoff hopes are on life support as it goes to No. 7 Carrollton (7-1, 4-1 Region 6-AAA) Friday looking to avoid its third straight defeat.
Part-time work for Buford players | gwinnettdailypost.com
At Buford, the best football players, the starters, put in as much work on the practice field and in the weight room as any other high-level high school football players. They toil in the spring and summer heat, perfecting their jobs on the football field. They spend the fall giving their maximum effort in practice so they’ll be ready on Friday nights.
Rams must balance attack to beat Douglass | rockdalecitizen.com
Turnovers and which Douglass team shows up could be keys to giving the Newton Rams a win at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Lakewood Stadium. While the Astros have the ability to run the football, they also like to throw it. But Douglass rarely does both evenly in the same game.

Banged-up Vikings need big plays against Starr’s Mill | timesherald.com
It’s certainly no secret that Northgate High has a young football team. This week – injuries – will make the Vikings’ squad even younger. Defensive lineman James Searcy and offensive lineman D.J. Arnold – both seniors – are out for the remainder of the year with injuries. Another senior, tight end / defensive end Joey Poropatic, is listed as “very doubtful” with an ankle injury for Friday’s home finale against the Starr’s Mill Panthers.
Cougars face toughest test yet | timesherald.com
“Hiram will be the best team, especially on defense, that we’ve played since Carrollton,” the Newnan coach said. “They played East Coweta extremely tough and we expect the same kind of game Friday.” The Hornets, who are 4-4 overall and 2-2 in Region 4-AAAAA, lost at East Coweta last week, 29-13, but with the exception of two long punt returns for ECHS touchdowns in the third quarter, played the Indians even. “I’ve really been impressed with their defense,” the coach said. “They play very aggressively.”
Hawks still in pursuit of playoffs | timesherald.com
Ron Beaucham has been through a few runs at state football playoff bids as both a player – at Newnan High and Jacksonville State – and as a coach – at Northgate, Bradwell Institute and Thomas Central. Beaucham will be seeking to lead the Heritage School Hawks to that program’s first GISA state playoff berth Friday. His squad travels to Monticello to face the Piedmont Academy Cougars in a crucial Region 4-AA contest.
