Villa Rica smashes Cartersville | dailytribune.com
With a defense as young and inexperienced as Villa Rica’s, the key for the Wildcats this season has been to let the offense take charge early in the game. Playing in a must-win game to stay in the Region 6-AAA playoff hunt, Villa Rica scored the first three touchdowns Friday night and cruised to a 47-12 victory over Cartersville at Sam McIntyre Stadium.
Adairsville squeaks by Sonoraville | dailytribune.com
The Adairsville Tigers made a furious fourth-quarter rally Friday night to beat Sonoraville, 25-22, in a Region 7-AA North game at Sonoraville and keep their state playoff hopes alive. Adairsville was playing without starting quarterback Grant DeBruin, who separated his left shoulder last week against Calhoun. Sophomore Tyree Brown stepped in for DeBruin and did a good job, said Adairsville head coach Mark Arthur.
Cedartown holds on to beat Cass | dailytribune.com
Friday night’s game between the Cass Colonels and Cedartown Bulldogs was a tale of two halves. The Bulldogs dominated the first half as they took a 28-7 lead into halftime, while the Colonels dominated the second half. Unfortunately for the Colonels, their second-half comeback wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs held on for a 42-33 win.
Woodland picks up first win | dailytribune.com
All season long, the Woodland Wildcats have been on the verge of winning a football game, coming close but always falling just short. Friday night at Wildcat Stadium, Woodland took the next step, using a balanced ground attack and a timely fourth-down conversion in the fourth quarter to knock off Osborne, 37-19, and give first-year head coach Steve Hamilton his first victory as Woodland’s head coach.
Cougar offense unstoppable | timesherald.com
The Newnan Cougars’ offense was almost unstoppable in the first half of the 49-21 win over Mundy’s Mill Friday night. Newnan scored on five of its six first half possessions and fumbled on the goal line on the other. Evidence of the Cougars’ domination: Newnan faced only two third down situations in 33 plays in the first half and converted both. Newnan racked up 326 yards of total offense in the first two quarters and the Cougars’ 35 points in the first and second quarters matched the season-high 35 they scored against Lithonia in the first half.
Cronic: ‘This was our best game’ | timesherald.com
The Friday night game between the East Coweta Indians and Hiram Hornets at Garland Shoemake Stadium may have offered more answers than questions where both teams are concerned. The most important answer was that the Indians won their eighth straight game of the season with a 29-13 victory over the Hornets thus clinching a home game for the state playoffs and clinching at least a tie for first place in Region 4-AAAAA with a 5-0 record. Another question that may have been answered was how the Indians would fare against a region opponent that was also in the hunt for a playoff berth in the Hornets.
Northgate offense gets in gear late | timesherald.com
It would have been nice if the Northgate offense could have had one more possession in Friday’s tight 14-11 loss at McIntosh. Under the guidance of quarterback Jake Copeland, the struggling unit went 79 yards in 17 plays, but burned up almost nine minutes of fourth quarter clock as they closed the deficit to three points. The offense made things interesting, but they were just a little late. Copeland, victimized by numerous drops, threw for 116 yards in the loss.

Cherokee traveled to the final round of the Class AAAA Fast-Pitch Softball State Championships thanks to stifling defense and timely hitting. Sequoyah ousted from sectionals | cherokeetribune.com

GSU defense posts its best outing of the football season | savannahmorningnews.com
t hasn’t been the best year statistically for the Georgia Southern defense. In fact, it’s the worst.
If the season ended tomorrow, the Eagles’ 30.9 points surrendered a game would rank dead last in the school’s record books since the program was restarted in 1982. Three times this season, Southern won games despite allowing 34 or more points. Twice, it lost games although the offense scored 38 and 33 points.
