| ajc.com

Carver of Columbus is No. 1 in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution rankings for the first time. Now, Carver must defend its position against the team it replaced in Class AAA. The AAA shuffle took place when former No. 1 LaGrange lost to another Columbus school, Shaw, ending the Grangers’ 18-game win streak in regular-season games.

Cougars’ streak reaches five
| timesherald.com

The Newnan Cougars did pretty much what was expected of them in their 35-6 win at Tri-Cities Friday night. They beat the winless Bulldogs in a dominating if not flashy style and came away with their fifth straight win, improving to 6-1 on the year. That record takes on added significance when you take into account that five of Newnan’s games have been on the road this season. The Cougars have now scored 216 points in their last five games, successive wins over South Gwinnett, Lithonia, Paulding County, Morrow and Tri-Cities.

Indians overcome emotional setbacks
| timesherald.com

The game of football is filled with emotion and that was proven Friday night in the Region 4-AAAAA contest between the East Coweta Indians and the Mundy’s Mill Tigers at Twelve Oaks Stadium in Hampton. “This was a big game for both teams tonight and it was expected to be emotional,” commented Indians head coach Danny Cronic. “The emotion of the game affected us early but we were able to overcome it and maintain good focus the rest of the game.”

Vikings defensive coordinator excited despite loss to Banneker
| timesherald.com

Northgate High defensive coordinator Casey Smith had plenty to feel upbeat about regarding the effort of his unit in Friday’s 18-0 loss to Banneker. Outside the first Trojan series, one that Banneker went 63 yards in seven plays, Smith was excited with what he saw. “Our guys, for the most part, did a great job against a superior offense. We weren’t motivated initially and that hurt us on the first series. We shouldn’t have been flat, but after that, we played well,” explained the defensive leader.

Wheeler, Treutlen renew River Rumble
| courierherald.com

When Wheeler County and Treutlen get together there are no words needed from the coaches to get the teams ready to play in this rivalry. “It’s one of those games that when you get your calender, every coach circles,” said Treutlen head coach Britt Ingle. “It’s a good old fashion rivalry. If anybody is looking for a good game to go to, they need to go to Soperton because it’s going to be a doggone good one.”

Indians, Royals pair up in 4-AA battle
| courierherald.com

It would be hard to say the Indians really missed starting QB Charles Gordon and fullback LaQuan Hogue all that much. With both starters out with injury last week against Tattnall, the Indians (5-1, 2-0) turned to senior rusher Cameo Holloway, who ran for 180 yards and three scores in a 48-0 drubbing of the Warriors.

Harrison not ready to sit out yet
| mariettadailyjournal.com

The Harrison Lady Hoyas wrote the number 25 on the palm of their hands as early as last Wednesday as a friendly reminder that they wanted to play for an entire volleyball game at the Area 5AAAAA tournament. There were times that the young squad would play strong for the first 15 points before faltering, and other times they would get into an early deficit and pick up their intensity at the end of game. The number 25 written on their hands kept telling them they needed to start strong and finish strong.
