Class AAAAA Recap

In Class AAAAA there were a lot of questions heading into the tournament. After this weekend’s action, four teams were left standing: Mill Creek, Grayson, Lassiter, and Peachtree Ridge.

The Mill Creek Hawks were led by senior Morgan Bullock, who was a vital cog in last season’s run to the Elite Eight. Bullock took care of business on the mound with a number of great pitching performances including her shutout against Milton in the tournament’s deciding game. The Hawks 2-0 victory put them back into the Elite Eight for the second time in as many years.

The Grayson Rams advanced through the tourney with ease, and finally knocked off Lassiter thanks to with Ashley Berger’s huge RBI. The victory marks the team’s first ever appearance in the Class AAAAA softball championship.

The Peachtree Ridge Lions perhaps had the most impressive run out of all of these four teams. They began the tournament losing their opening round game to Kennesaw Mountain, and then remarkably ran the table through the loser’s bracket. Emily Osterhaus and Krysten Connelly pitched gems for the Lions as they were able to overcome the odds and advance into the Elite Eight.

The final team to make it in was the Lassiter Trojans. They were able to rebound after losing the championship game in the winner’s bracket, and quickly dispatch of Woodstock en route to the final round.
