Oconee County coach Nick Saltaformaggio will celebrate a birthday later this week. Instead of turning a year older, after last night’s game, he feels as though he’s aged 15 years. The Warriors (2-3, 1-0 Region 8-AAA) scored a fourth-quarter touchdown to secure a 7-0 victory over Franklin County (2-3, 0-1 Region 8-AAA). Last year, the Lions shut out Oconee County 31-0 for the first victory in seven meetings, dating back to 1984.

For the second straight week, the Valdosta State Blazers had a less than stellar first half, causing concern for coaches heading into the locker room. Fortunately for the Blazers, the Valdosta State football team was able to overcome the slow start, and picked up a 31-3 victory against Ouachita Baptist at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Sisters Kati, Cassie and Claire have not only been student trainers, scorekeepers and players, but their friendliness has made them amazingly good ambassadors for Newnan High School in the process.

On Homecoming Saturday, Valdosta State’s volleyball team fell to Alabama-Huntsville in four sets at The Complex. Each game was close, but the Chargers were able to pull out the 3-1 win. UAH lost the first game 30-25, but won the next three 30-26, 30-26, 31-29.
