High School Football

Adam Schreiner of Walton proved last week that kickers can win big games. His 58-yarder was the difference in a 13-10 upset of then-No. 1 Roswell. Schreiner has made four of six field goals and kicked five touchbacks on eight kickoffs… Atlanta Journal Constitution

Norcross playing Peachtree Ridge must be a little bit what it’s like when the president-elect and the lame-duck sitting president pass each other somewhere in the corridors of the White House. You’ve got the guy picked to become the rising chief executive and the guy who usually isn’t ready to let go of the power. And here we have Norcross, the newly anointed No. 1 in Class AAAAA, taking the same field as Peachtree Ridge, a defending co-champion. Laney has never beaten Swainsboro. ’s Tavoris Berry is no stranger to adversity.After suffering a ruptured ACL two years ago, the senior defensive lineman has overcome the injury to become one of the most productive defenders for the Jaguars. Things started coming apart in the Lady Raider infield in the fourth inning, but it wasn’t enough for the Lady Falcons to pull any closer than five runs. West Laurens scattered 13 hits for a 15-6 victory in seven innings. After Jennifer Outler reached on an error, Shareeta Evans sent a liner to the left side of the infield. The throw to first sailed all the way to the right field fence, allowing both Outler and Evans to motor home. ’s Region 8-AAAAA finale with Parkview on Thursday night took on a playoff atmospher2e as the Black Knights scratched out a 3-2 win in nine innings to snap a five-game losing streak.The win put Central at 15-15 overall and 3-3 in region play and set the Black Knights up as the fourth seed in next week’s Region 8 tournament at Brookwood where they will open up with Berkmar next Tuesday at 7 p.m…Gwinnett Daily Post

Ashley Craddock had three hits in as many at-bats and Erica Smith scattered six hits as the Perry softball team edged rival Peach County 4-2 in a rain-shortened game here Thursday. Using the two-hit pitching of Kayla Vallery and an eight-hit attack at the plate the Newnan Lady Cougars beat the Paulding County Lady Patriots, 10-0, in five innings at the NHS field Thursday.
