Callaway runs wild for Athens Academy. Coach Michael Gunn sings the praises of tailback Will Callaway after racking up 163 yards and two touchdowns in a 36-6 victory over Mount Pisgah.


Norcross Smokes Grayson.
Keith Maloof was proud of his boys Friday night, as Norcross took down Grayson 24-3. According to Mickey Conn, Norcross’ lethal Nick Sorel-Charles King quaterback combo proved too much.

Top Ranked 2-A Brookwood Takes Down Valdosta. Valdosta has been trying to right itself after 2006. On Friday, it lost big (37-6) against the 2-A kings Brookwood Broncos. Kenny Miles’ 257 yard performance was too much for Valdosta coach Rick Tomberlin’s squad.


Brookwood Falls to Bronco Stampede.
The Valdosta Wildcats went down big to the Brookwood Broncos, 37-6 at the Dave Hunter Complex. The Broncos’ 308 rushing yards were too much for the Wildcats to handle.

North Oconee beats the Holy Innocents and Mother Nature. After a lengthy lightning delay, North Ocnoee outlasted the Holy Innocents in what North Oconee coach Terry Tuley called a “rock ‘em, sock ‘em” contest.

Parkview’s Offense Explodes in Win Over Union Grove. Cecil Flowe’s Parkview Panthers scored on plays of 32, 50 and 62 yards in the game’s first 10 minutes and never looked back.

Stephenson holds McNair to Two Points. A lone safety was all that the McNair Mustangs could muster against their highly ranked 5-A foe, Stephenson Jaguars. McNair quaterback Cesary Wilborn was sacked five times in the Jaguars’ stellar defensive performance.


Undefeated Carver-Atlanta Rolls Over Winnless Decatur.
In a 39-24 victory, it was Carver’s offense that reigned supreme. Tailbacks Demond Dennis and Mark Williams Jr. each had over 100 yards rushing, with Dennis scoring one touchdown and Williams scoring three. Senior quarterback/receiver Tiunte Little, freshman quarterback Orimpian Allen, sophomore running back Patrick Etuck, sophomore linemen Emanuel Walters and Dimitri Davis and junior Octavius Cummings each had big nights for Coach Myles as well.

Evans Recoups After an Early Mistake to Beat Lakeside. The Panthers jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead with less than three minutes having ticked off the clock. But then, the combo of Evans coach Marty Jackson and senior quarterback Kevin Millward went to work. Jonathan Nicely, Brandon McCladdie, Trey Henderson and Taylor Hooven all scored for Evans. And the Knights’ defense troubled Lakeside quarterback Chad Chandler all night with five tackles for a loss including four sacks in the second half alone.

Rivalry Heats Up as Washington-Wilkes gets embarrassed by Lincoln County. Lincoln County took advantage of the extra preparation time as it storms past Washington-Wilkes 32-0 in a game that was rescheduled due to weather. A.G. Middlebrooks and Wilkes Goolsby were the stars on offense for Larry Campbell’s Red Devils.

Laney v. Baldwin Called in Second Quarter. Coaches Lemuel Lackey and Jesse Hicks were disappointed when the referees called the game in the second quarter due to rain, but not as much as their players. Baldwin junior tailback Jerrico Ford running left behind Jason Peacock and Jerome Saulsbury rushed for 95 yards before the game’s abrupt ending.

Northwestern’s Neely Runs Through North Augusta. Jared Neely had two returns of 79 and 80 yards each (with one going for a touchdown) as the visiting Northwestern team from South Carolina took down North Augusta. Northwestern took advantage of three turnovers from Dan Pippin’s squad, including a pick in the endzone from quarterback Travis Murphy.

Jefferson County Forced to Settle for a Tie Against Thomson. Coaches J.B. Arnold and Luther Welsh agreed to stop the game due to lightning. As a result, the two teams walked away with a 7-7 tie, although it looked like Barry Bostic and Jefferson County were preparing for a big night.

Camden pummels Aiken. Camden rushed for 375 yards and Aiken lost three fubles, all of which turned into touchdowns for the Wildcats in Camden’s 41-0 defeat of Aiken. Adrian Alexander ran for 119 yards, Major Herron scored twice, once on a 51-yard run; Greg Baker also scored twice; and Robert Williams recovered two fumbles for the Wildcats.

Overtime for Glynn Academy and Statesboro.
Statesboro running back Marcus White ran for a 4-yard touchdown on second-and-goal in overtime to give Statesboro the win. Glynn missed a chance to win it in regulation when the snap on a field goal attempt fell short. Brett Bearden kicked three field goals, Darryl Armstead and David Bailey combined for 111 yards rushing. Statesboro quarterback Luke Connell had 148 yards passing, including a 66-yard touchdown strike to Sherrod Natson.

Statesboro Takes Down Glynn Academy in Bulloch County Classic. In an exciting overtime match, Statesboro emerged victorious 19-16 over Glynn Academy.

High Scoring Affair Ends in Tie. Rome quarterback Cory Thacker’s last minute heave to receiver Terrell Burley was intercepted by Cartersville cornerback Byron Hall, resulting in a 28-28 tie featuring the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes and Class AAAA Rome.

Cherokee’s High-Powered Offense Blasts Woodland.
Coach Brian Dameron’s Cherokee squad needed just 9:32 to score six first-half touchdowns en route to a 48-20 region victory over the Woodland Wildcats.

Cass pounds Gordon Central. Cass scored on its first four possessions of the game to open up a 28-0 halftime lead before cruising to a 42-0 victory over Calhoun. Cass head coach Rick Casko was pleased with his team’s performance, especially that of quarterback Blake Sims who was making his second career varsity start.

Adairsville Hits its Stride in a Win over Model. The Adairsville Tigers corrected their running woes, thanks to the 202 yard performance of Nigel Curtis in a 42-20 victory over the Model Blue Devils. Adairsville coach Mark Arthur indicated that it was a break-through game for their running offense.

Creekside Storms From Behind to Take Down Starr’s Mill. In the teams’ region 2-AAAA opener, the Creekside Seminoles overcame a 9-0 fourth quarter deficit to beat the Starr’s Mill Panthers 11-9. Rodriguez Price’s 4-yard touchdown run Zack Amey’s 22-yard field goal with 33.5 seconds left gave the Seminoles the victory.

Hardaway Falter Late, but Hang on to Beat Kendrick. Hardaway coach Morgan Ingram’s fingernails were chewed to nubs as the last six minutes of his squad’s contest involving Kendrick did not go according to plans. couldn’t put the last six minutes into words. Fortunately for Hardaway, Kendrick quarterback Kris Carson’s fourth-down pass fell short, and the Hawks had held on for a 24-20 win.

Northside’s Turnovers the Key in Defeat to Troup. Northside’s three fumbles, a blocked punt and bad snap, along with Troup’s five touchdowns led way to Troup’s 42-14 victory over Northside Saturday night. The Patriorts’ loss of starting quarterback, senior Lamar Brown did not help things, nor did Jacorius Cotton’s big night.

Wilkerson Leads Pacelli to Win Over Landmark Christian. Pacelli quarterback Stuart Wilkerson threw for three touchdowns as Pacelli took down Landmark Christian 25-17. Wide Receivers David Miller and Ryan Reed were the primary beneficiaries of Wilkerson’s darts. Running back Jacquise Terry also had a successful evening.


Smiths Station Shuts Out Russell County in a Thriller.
Smiths Station overcame a troubled early performance by wide receiver Cody Hussey to take out visiting Russell County 14-0.

Shaw Shows No Mercy in Battle with Harris County. Coming off a disappointing loss to rival Carter, the Raiders rebounded nicely with the help of standout running back Kyle Griswould. Shaw coach Scott Newman was in awe of Griswould’s performance.

ECI Blasts Johnson County. The Emanuel County Institute, led by Washuan Ealy’s 200 yards and five touchdowns, handed the Trojans a 33-0 defeat. Trojan head coach Don Norton believes the talent of the Trojans’ opponent and miscues by the Trojans were the primary factors in the outcome.

East Laurens Edges Twigs County. The East Laurens Falcons and Twiggs County Cobra’s left it all out on the field, and Falcons turnovers were the deciding factor in a 24-20 loss to the Cobras. Wadriques Jackson had an 85 yard kickoff return for a touchdown for the Falcons’s first play of the game . However, Eric Grayer and Earnest Butts helped the Cobra’s to erase the deficit and ultimately prevail.

Trinity Christian Wins Big over Central Fellowship Christian Academy of Macon. Coach Steve Price’s squad struggled early, but hit eventually found their stride in a 58-15 thrashing of CFC. Colby Jackson was the story of the night, putting up 217 yards and four touchdowns on just eight carries, all in the first half.

Dublin Dominates Second Half En Route to Win Over Washington County.
Coach Roger Holmes stressed Dublin’s run game (290 yards on 38 attempts) in the Irish’s 42-21 defeat of the Golden Hawks. Quarterback Rashard Smith proved to be a key element of said running game.

Irish Offense Flashes in Drubbing of Washington County. The Irish offense rolled through the Golden Hawks 42-21 Friday night at the Shamrock Bowl. Dublin quarterback Rashard Smith ran for two touchdowns and threw for three more, with Andreakeas Rollins catching two. Smith also rushed for 105 yards, and Rollins 104.

In a battle of North and South, North Forsyth Goes Down to South Forsyth. Greg Slattery’s South squad scored 34 unanswered points after a 9-0 start to beat the Raiders 34-24. North head coach Jared Zito said his team’s poor performance in the third quarter was the key to the game.

In a Junior Varsity Battle of West and Central, West Forsyth Downs Forsyth Central. The West Forsyth and Forsyth Central junior varsity squads met on Friday, with the Wolverines taking down the Bulldogs 23-16. Wolverines quarterback Lance Baker and special teamer Jason Klanac proved to be the difference.

Weather Delayed Matchup Between Griffin Christian and Thomas Jefferson Ends in Blowout. Griffin Christian’s Christian Lawver, Kevin Abercrombie and Ethan Rowe helped the Crusaders to their most productive night of the season on offense in a 53-12 loss to two-time Class A defending state champ Thomas Jefferson.
However, first-year GCHS head coach Kerry Phillips thought his team was capable of better.

Central Beats Warner Robins in Double Overtime. Earlier in the game, Warner Robins placekicker David Clark set a school record for the longest field goal. In double overtime however, he missed a 27-yard field goal as the Demons lost to Central Gwinnett 27-24. Warner Robins head coach Bryan Way said the missed field goal was not the reason for the loss.

North Clayton Blanks Forest Park in Region Matchup. Two interceptions by Daamon Cooper and a fumble return for a touchdown by Sedrick Singletary sparked another strong defensive display by North Clayton in Friday night’s 13-0 region 4A-AAAA victory over Coach Don Shockley’s Forest Park squad.

Stratford and Mount de Sales Battle in Weather-Delayed Makeup Game. The Eagles regrouped on Saturday to pick up a 17-7 win over rival Mount de Sales. The Eagles’ defense played strong, and Colby Collins’ offense produced enough to give Statford its first win of the season.

Westside’s Defense Rolls Again, this Time Over Savannah. The Seminoles’ defense finally gave up its first touchdown of the year in a 51-12 victory over Savannah. Seminoles quarterback Orrin McFadden’s running skills were on display, and complimented nicely by running back Marcus Wilson.


College Football Tidbits from the Macon Telegraph.
Dublin head coach Roger Holmes doesn’t want to hear comparisons to recent years…Dooly County looking to compete in the Region 2-A title race…Hawkinsville season starts with a bang…Northside looking for another championship ring, and a team defense record…

Beckley County wins Non-region Game over Hawkinsville. Coach Sam Barrs’ Royals beat Hawkinsville 27-6 for the first time since 2000. Hawkinsville head coach Lee Campbell was impressed by Barrs’ squad.

Northside Finds its Way In Fine Fashion Against North Clayton. Without star quarterback Marques Ivory, Northside relied on seniors Tijuan Green and Nick Bass and juniors K.J. Morton and Eric Fields to dominate North Clayton 42-6. Northside head coach Conrad Nix said that not starting Ivory was just, “a little thing. It was a decision I made.”

Macon County Gets By Rutland and the Elements. Rutland head coach Lance Perlman stressed protecting the ball to his team in the week leading up to this weekend’s game. His wishes were not granted. In the wet conditions, he Hurricanes were guilty of five turnovers in its 7-2 loss to Macon County.

Bekmar Gets Home Win over Houston County.
Berkmar relied on big plays from wide receiver Isaiah Jupiter and quarterback T.J. Smith in a 20-7 home win over Houston County. Berkmar head coach Wendell Early also lauded the performance of his squad’s defense, that allowed a total of just 153 yards.

Monroe Sloshes Through Win Over Northeast. In an ugly matchup, the Tornadoes grinded out three fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns in a 25-12 victory. Monroe head coach Charles Truitt stressed the run against a Northeast defense that was up to the task.

Tartnall Square Rallies to Win Over Rival Westfield. Tattnall Square overcame a weak first quarter performance in its 20-12 win over non-region foe Westfield. Tatnall’s quarterback Kyle Redmond rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another as the Trojans improved to 2-0 on the season.

Newnan Rolls Over South Gwinnett. Thanks to a strong second half, Newnan opened up a first half 7-0 lead to a 35-0 win over South Gwinnett. Jarvious Mitchell had a personal best with 193 yards on 10 carries. Keandreas Wynn was limited to 58 yards on 15 carries.

East Cowetta Blanks Over-matched Jackson. Ryan Gates and Tim Mcgill led the East Coweta Indians to a 31-0 victory over the Jackson Red Devils. Indians head coach Danny Cronic was pleased with the adjustments his team made during the game.

Portal Continues Winless Ways Against Screven County. The Portal Panthers moved to 0-3 after a 32-0 loss to Screven County. Friday’s game was concerning to Panther head coach Justin Chester.

Bulloch County Offense on Display in Win Over Robert Toombs Christian Academy. Led by Jordan Walker and Ethan Lovett, Bulloch Academy came away with a 42-6 win over Robert Toombs Christian Academy. Bulloch enjoyed 212 yards of total offense while Robert Toombs was limited to just 125 total yards.

Southeast Bulloch Gets Shut Out By Visiting Vidalia. Southeast Bulloch was limited by the rain and a staunch Indians defense in a 26-0 loss at Fred Shaver Field.

Ware County Loses Hard-Fought Battle to Lowndes High.
The Ware County Gators went down 28-14 to the Vikings of Lowndes High. Lowndes pulled away in the second half to a two-touchdown lead, but Gators head coach Dan Ragle was proud of his team’s effort.

Lowndes Overcomes Ware County. Lowndes and Gator quarterback Dustin Cox overcame its own mistakes in a 28-14 in Waycross Friday.

Valwood Rolls in Home Opener Over Eagle Nest Christian Academy. The Valwood Valiants improved to 3-0 on the season after a 44-14 win over ENCA. Valwood head coach Mike Patrick said the home crowd played a key role in the victory. The play of Ricky Williams and Zac Henry of Valwood also helped.
