2007 Atlanta Cup: Ladies’ Scores and Recaps

September 3rd, 2007 Posted in South East, tournament, Georgia, Soccer

LocalReplay was at Parts One and Two of the Georgia FC four and three weekends ago, respectively. LocalReplay was at the NASA Classic last weekend. Both are excellent tournaments run by first-class people; but really, nothing in the area can compete with the size and depth of competition found at the annual Atlanta Cup.

LocalReplay visited the action at the Polo Fields, GSA, Whiltlock, Wade Walker and others, and have posted a heck of a lot of photos here, for your viewing enjoyment. Following is a brief look at the Girls’ action from this weekend. Check back with us later this evening for a Boys’ review, and also accolades from both the Boys’ and Girls’ sides.

Under 10 Girls Cup

At the end of regulation in Monday morning’s final, the FSA KRUSH ACADEMY and the Lady Cannon’s 98 were knotted at 0-0. Penalty kicks decided the result of the match, with Krush coming out with more balls in the back of the net. Krush actually finished second in Group A, but took down Manchester Utd in the Semi’s to reach the finals.

Under 10 Girls A

In the Girls A finals, the Starline Flyers upset local favorites Alpharetta Ambush White 2-0. The Flyers looked solid all weekend, taking their Group with relative ease.

Under 11 Girls Cup

97 Impact Nike reigned supreme in the 11 Girls Cup finals with a 1-0 win over Sunrise Sting 97. The Impact won a dramatic overtime victory in the semi’s over the Gold 3-2.

Under 11 Girls A

MPSC U11 Elite took down the Atlanta Fire United 97 Silver 3-2 in the Girls A championship game. The Elite were the class of this division, as they wrapped up their Atlanta Cup weekend with an unblemished record.

Under 11 Girls B

97 Nike - Gleason rolled in their final game at Allen Creek to a 2-1 win over the 96 LNSC Lady Black. The Black beat the GFC U-11 Power Gold in the semi’s, while Nike got past 96 SCSA Blue G on its way to the championships.

The HFC Hurricanes blew their through competition on the way to a 1-0 victory over the FSA Krush Academy White. The Hurricanes were actually the lower seed coming into the finals. In regular play they had one loss and two close wins, while the Krush had an easier time of things during regular play.

Under 12 Girls A

A thriller in the U12 Girls A finals featured the Alpharetta Ambush 96 White over NASA South Milbret. Milbret got by the MPSC 95 Girls Elite, while the Ambush slipped past the Atlanta Fire United 96 Gold.

Under 12 Girls B

The Tophat White came up one goal short against the CGSA LADY STRIKERS A in this morning’s championship game. U12 Girls B was one of the most competitive divisions of the tournament, with five teams separated by two points at the end of regular play.

Under 12 Girls 11 Cup

Out at the Wade Walker fields, the ESC 96 Black got up early to take down the Alpharetta Ambush 96 Red 2-1. These two teams were on a collision course, finishing atop their respective groups with nine overall points each.

Under 13 Girls Cup

Eleven other teams in the division, and the NASA G13 Elite II rose above them all with a 2-1 defeat of GSA 95 Phoenix Red. Atlanta Fire United 95 also finished in first place in its division, but came up short in the semis.

In another crowded division, the Bridge FA 94 Gold came up with a convincing 3-1 victory over the Concorde Fire South 95 Black. In semi-final play, it was the Black rolling over the Macon United Navy 5-0, while the Gold edged out the NASA G13 Elite 2-0.

Under 13 Girls B

This division was so popular, it actually had four groups. The Lady Canons 95 Gold took a ticket to the semi’s based on goal differential, and made the most of it. The Canons came up with a solid 2-0 victory over the Lanier Sharks Gold.

Under 14 Girls Cup

The ASA Xtreme 94 Elite slid by the Impact USA 94 Nike 1-0 in an extremely entertaining U14 Girls Cup finals. The AFC Lightning 94 White were favorites going into the semi-finals, but were upset 2-1 by the Elite.

Under 14 Girls A

The Stars SC 12 Elite took home the U14 Girls A trophy with a 2-1 victory over the KFC Blue. The Elite had an easy time with its division, finishing with nine overall points.

The SpaceCoast Storm 93/94 team’s long trip to the Atlanta-metro area was worth it, as they walked off the pitch this Championship Monday with a 2-1 win over the Matthews USA Gold. The MPS 93 Elite also won their group, but came up short in the semi’s to the Gold.

Under 14 Girls C

Renegades 4, Tophat 12 Navy 0. Yikes. The Renegades were a force to be reckoned with the entire tournament, and showed no mercy beating their opponents with an impressive 3+ average per game goal differential.

Under 15 Girls Cup

Lots of scoring in the final game - the fans can appreciate that! In a shot-fest, the GSA 93 Phoenix Red got by visiting Ponte Vedra Storm 3-2 to keep the U15 Girls Cup in Georgia.

Under 15 Girls A

The Sunrise Fire carried the success it enjoyed at Pickneyville on Saturday and Sunday into the finals versus the Roswell Santos. It was the Fire who came out on top 3-0 in a game that was actually much closer than the score indicates.

CUSC 92 Black overcame hometown North Atlanta 11 Premier 2-1 in the B finals. The Black took down the PTC Lazers 93G in the semi’s, while the Premier did the same to the HCU 93 Blue.

Under 15 Girls C

Carolina over Georgia as the Carolina FC 92 G edged out the Cobb YMCA Strikers Red in extra time penalty kicks. I love the drama, but I know that a couple sets of goalkeeper parents were on the edge of their seats!

Under 16 Girls Cup

The AFC Lightning 92 White shut out the First Coast KYX Elite 1-0 in a back and forth match at Wade Walker this morning. The White got to the finals thanks to a semi-final victory over also-unbeaten Atlanta Fire United 92 Elite.

Under 16 Girls A

The Augusta Arsenal took the U16 Girls A championship down I-20 after their 1-0 victory over the Concorde Fire South 92 Elite. The Arsenal were not the most impressive team in regular play however - that title should likely go to the Bayside 92 Storm.

Under 16 Girls B

The First Coast KYX White won the “Battle of the Coasts” with a 1-0 win over the Gulf Coast United Blues. The Blues picked up a win over the North Atlanta 10 Select in the semi-finals, and KYX got past the Carolina FC 91 Girls in their semi-final.

Under 16 Girls C

The Hernando Heat U16 Girls were too much for the ASA Xtreme 92 Blue, as the Heat took the division finals 2-1. The Blue beat the Pike County Lady Fury Red in the semi’s, and the Heat got by the 92 Thunder Girls.

Under 17 Girls Cup

In one fantastic early morning matchup, the Lady Jets 91 Blue beat out the GSA 91 Phoenix Red to take the U17 Girls crown. The Tophat 09 Gold just missed the finals, falling 2-1 to the Jets in the semi-finals on Sunday.

Under 17 Girls A

GSA 91 Phoenix - 2, Jupiter Sting - 0. So finished the Phoenix’s weekend at the Atlanta Cup. Interesting to note, they actually finished with fewer overall points than the Sting during regular play.

Under 17 Girls B

Bridge and Tophat 09 Navy gathered at the top of the 18-yard box to watch as their teams traded kicks from the penalty mark after time had expired Unfortunately for Navy, it was Bridge who emerged victorious.

Under 19 Girls Cup

Angels 90 enjoyed a strong performance in the U19 Girls Cup finals, as they went on to beat the Concorde Fire South 90 Elite 2-1 Monday morning. The Angels out of Birmingham were never really threatened the entire tournament.

Under 19 Girls A

The Hotshots took down the Island FC Hurricanes 2-1 in extra time PK’s. The Hurricanes got to the finals thanks to a 2-1 upset over the Concorde Fire South 90 Black, while the Hotshots enjoyed a victory of their own over home-town GSA 90 Phoenix White.

Under 19 Girls B

The ECU U18G tripped up the Lady Strikers 2-1 in the final game Monday morning. The Strikers, ECU and CUSC 89 Black each won their group in regular play.

Under 19 Girls C

It was the IUS Arsenal that lost in a shocker to the 89 CMSC Laides Blue. CMSC actually finished second in their group, and still managed to score enough goals when it counted to come up with a tough Arsenal squad.
