The Atlanta-Journal Constitution published its annual audio preview featuring contenders and pretenders in Georgia high school football.

The ties in state championships are over, writes Jeff Haws.

It seems as if everyone is excited for football season. Brookwood and Etowah are very exicted about the upcoming season. Brookwood will be featured in the Kell Powerade Classic this weekend.

Warren County has big expectations this season as the team looks to build on last season’s success and look for some big stars to step up.

Burke County and Jefferson County are among the teams that play big games this weekend. This marks the first game for Burke County Coach Eric Parker, and he looks to make his mark against a tough Jefferson County squad.

The Carrollton Trojans have been waiting all off-season for opening weekend. Other area teams like Bowdon are even having trouble sleeping at night. This should be a special weekend for these teams.

Lincoln County is looking to reload. Losing a bunch of players can be tough, but Larry Campbell is optimistic that his team will push forward.

The Heritage School is ready for season number two. Coach Ron Beauchamp is positive about this season after ending last year with a 33-0 win.

Sharpsburg will have an out of state opponent.

Getting past the second round is the biggest obstacle for Thomson High School. The 2002 state champions have failed to make it past the second round since their victory in the title game.

Northgate High School will look to again dominate on opening night as they did last season against Central Carrollton.

Expectations are something Richmond Academy does not believe in. Coach Chris Hughes simply wants more fight from his team.

Clayton County is preparing for a big night under the lights as all of their area teams get underway Friday.

Buford is headed all the way up to Ohio for their opener on Friday. The trip will be long, but the team is ready and definitely has something to prove.

North Augusta and Strom Thurmond square off in an interesting matchup.

Marty Jackson , head coach of Evans High School, expects past glory to help lead them towards success this season. The 4-6 record last season left a sour taste in the mouths of players and fans.
