And the “Great LocalReplay Georgia High School Football Preseason Top 10 Project” rolls on…
In this edition, we take an initial look at Class 4A, a class that is traditionally ruled by the historic Georgia high school football powerhouses.
LocalReplay Preseason Top 10 (Class 4A)
1. Marist-The War Eagles of Marist were one game away from claiming the state championship in 2006. Alan Chadwick, coach of the War Eagles since 1976, has his team hungry to avenge their title game loss.
2. East Paulding - The town of Dallas is buzzing about their Raiders as this could be one of the best squads Coach John Reid has yet to lead onto the field. The Raiders could meet Marist again in the playoffs, and avenge the loss that ended their season in 2006.
3. Tucker - The opportunistic Tigers are looking to build off of a great 2006 campaign. Tucker won’t sneak up on opponents this year, but their talent level is too great to underestimate.
4. Salem - This team has tons of talent, heart, and upside…That being said, a No. 4 ranking may be a little too high for the Seminoles, but its hard to argue with their explosive backfield. Salem will impress this year.
5. Cedar Shoals - Scott Wilkins’ players must block out the heightened expectations surrounding this fine looking Cedar Shoals squad going into the 2007 season. If they do, this team has the potential to run the table and be the surprise champion of 4A.
6. Statesboro - The Blue Devils got off to an amazing start last season, but ended in misery with the Devils losing their last two games. This season should spell more playoff success for Steve Pennington and his squad.
7. Westlake - The Lions are the darkhorse in Class 4A after picking up a number of playoff wins last season. Look for the Lions to ride their 2006 momentum deep into the 2007 playoffs.
8. St. Pius X - The Golden Lions are have been mainstays in prior Top 10 lists. This season should be no different as they look to build on past success.
9. Northside Warner Robbins - The No. 9 slot could be a little low for the defending state champions, but with the loss of a number of key starters, it is tough to reload in a division this deep.
10. Habersham Central - The Raiders found success early and often last year, but a devastating playoff loss to Warner Robbins ended their season. Habersham is very focused this season and should win their region.
