The clouds were kind to those in attendance at Day Two of the 2007 Georgia Futbol Club Invitational. Championship Sunday’s weather was a bit more tepid, allowing the players to focus more on their competition and less on overheating. Nine separate teams were crowned champions of their respective divisions - results can be found below.

Hats off to Lloyd White, Lisa Cheshire and the tons of other staff, referees and volunteers that helped to make this year’s tournament a tremendous success. We look forward to covering next weekend’s 15-18 year old version of the Georgia FC Invitational. The victory gave the Gunners 5 points and a berth in the championship game against ASA Extreme, the points leader after dispatching GFC U13 Athena Elite 1-0. Under 11/12 Boys Division
In the largest division, many teams had visions of division championships heading into Sunday’s games. In the first games of the day, the Alpharetta Ambush Red defeated the Georgia FC Blackburn squad 10-0, and the Stars Orange won a tough match over the Georgia FC Man U Club, 2-0. The Stars and Ambush Red each had the same win-loss record, but the Ambush’s better margin of victory sent them to the finals. As for Flight B, Ambush White had a 3 point lead going into Sunday’s action and did not relinquish it as they racked up another victory with a 2-1 win against Georgia FC Chelsea. In the title game, which pitted two teams of the same club, the Red team handily won the contest with the White 3-0, en route to the championship. [Click here for additional results]

In the highest scoring division on the first day, the Under 10 Girls Division did not disappoint on the second day of action. Norcross Soccer Academy continued to struggle, dropping all three games on the weekend including a 2-0 heartbreaker to GFC Elite. GSA White wasn’t able to overcome a first day point deficit against ASA Xtreme, even with their 6-0 win over the Norcross Academy. ASA Xtreme prevailed 7-3 over the Norcross Fury giving them 9 points and locking up a spot in the title game against the Fury Gold. Xtreme was named champion after the knocking off the Fury Gold team for the second day in a row. [Click here for additional results]

Under 10 Girls Division
With most of Saturday’s action coming down to the wire, it was no surprise that day two had a number of competitive games. ASA Xtreme dropped its first game to GFC 97, catapulting GFC 97 into the championship game. The tiebreaker went to GFC as ASA also had 6 points coming into the match. In the title game, GFC faced a Norcross Fury Blue that cruised into the finals with an undefeated record and a mere seven goals against. And in a minor upset, GFC took down Norcross in a 3-2 struggle in a game that was as entertaining to watch as any other taking place this weekend. [Click here for additional results]

Under 14 Boys Gold Division
With only four teams in the league, the Georgia FC Elite had a choke hold on the Gold Division by the end of the day Saturday, and continued to show off their defensive prowess with a 2-0 victory over the Lanier Gold Sharks. The Ambush held onto 2nd place with a win over the Georgia FC Premier squad, and earned the right for a first day grudge match with Georgia FC Elite. But the Elite again proved too powerful with another shutout as the team allowed only one goal on the tournament. The Elite indeed proved that they were the best club on the pitch this weekend.
