16 & Under Finals

In the 16U Girls Basketball Championship, the Georgia Metros out-fired the North Georgia Heat 62-21. The teams matched baskets early on, but the Metros’ height and strong guard play proved to be too much for the Heat. The Metros’ Seeburst had 20 points to lead all scorers. Coach Cynthia Cooper’s Metros look to build on their Georgia Games success in next week’s Peach State Girls Summer Invitational, a national women’s basketball tournament hosted at the Suwanee Sports Academy. (LocalReplay will be at this year’s Peach State Girls Summer Invitational – check back with us later this week for more great coverage of women’s amateur basketball!)
14 & Under Finals

In the day’s first championship game, the East Augusta Lady Warriors shot down the Lady Shooters 57-44. 22 points from Kayla West helped the Warriors build on an 11 point half time lead. The Warrior’s tenacious defense and up-tempo style proved too much for this year’s 14U Girls Basketball competitors, and brought the Georgia Games gold home to East Augusta.
12 & Under Finals

In the night cap, fans were treated to one of the finest games of the tournament. The North Georgia Heat burned the LaGrange Wolverines 52-39, although the game was much closer than the score may indicate. Spectators at the event were privy to a hard-fought contest between two gritty squads. Coach Rick Young’s Heat only recently came together to prepare for this year’s Georgia Games, but that didn’t stop Clara Young (15 points) and the Heat from displaying great chemistry during the entire three day tournament.
