East Lake Clinches Playoff Berth With Win Over Countryside, 21-13

Clearwater- On senior night at Countryside High School, and with a playoff spot at stake, The East Lake Eagles came right in and made themselves at home. The visitors jumped all over the host Cougars by a final of 21-13, punching their post-season ticket in the process. The Eagles flew out to a 21-0 first half lead courtesy of two touchdown dives by QB Blake Robles and then held on late to propel themselves into the District 5A-9 playoffs. The Cougars never really got things going, committing costly errors which lead to East Lake’s seemingly instantaneous lead. Countryside (2-2, 6-3) seemed stunned when Senior RB/DB Maurice Threatts left the game early with an arm injury. Without his 7.4 yards per carry in the game, The Eagles were able to adjust and dictate the tempo of the game – on offense and defense. Although Threatts would return (and score on a 22 yard pass) it would not be enough to extend Countryside’s season past next week’s finale at Seminole. Meanwhile, East Lake (3-1, 6-3) will be pumped knowing they have some post-season life after they host Gulf next week. For more info, check out the Box Score.
