Featured Game Recap: Zephyrhills at Gulf

Athlete David Williams Lead The Buccaneers’ with 3 Touchdowns and more
Gulf Upends Zephyrhills on Record Breaking Night, 35-13
New Port Richey- Gulf High School scored an important victory on a record breaking night that won’t soon be forgotten. The visitors from Zephyrhills High School were undefeated in the district at 3-0 and looking to solidify their place as kings of 3A-8, but The Buccaneers’ and their all-purpose athlete David Williams had other plans. Williams racked up 145 yards rushing, had 3 Touchdowns, a sack, and a game sealing Interception. Gulf stormed the stunned Bulldogs, taking an early 21-0 lead after only a few minutes. The home team was able to hold the advantage until the half. In the third quarter, Zephyrhills would rally to make it 21-13, but then Williams took over. His second touchdown, a 69- yard scamper, made it 28-13 and broke the all-time record for rushing yards in a season for Pasco County, which was 1,753 by Tyrone Tomlin in 2001. Williams new unofficial mark sets the record at 1,851. For good measure, Williams took another handoff 25 yards for his third touchdown on the night and helped lock up the win with an interception in his own end zone. The night was forgettable for Zephyrhills as they were plagued with fouls and turnovers. Their bench and crowd were quiet from the beginning and never really got any momentum. The win brings Gulf more into the district picture, evening their record at 3-1 and tying them with The Bulldogs’ for the lead, while also giving them the tie-breaker.
