Florida Football: Week 9 6A Rankings

Is it really Week 9? Hard to believe, but it’s true. Most teams will be playing their eighth game this week. A lot of those games are cupcakes that come a week before those big district title games, where the athletic directors seem to have the intuition to schedule games they know will feature the district’s two best teams.

I’m not comfortable with some of these 6A teams, and that’s because lots of them haven’t had head-to-head battles and haven’t even played common opponents. That makes it difficult to gauge. At the bottom, I’ve added Oviedo, which defeated a good Winter Springs team a week after falling 28-21 to Lake Brantley.

I had some concern for leaving Deltona, but I gave the Wolves a break given that they’ve only lost once. That loss, though, was to FPC, which moves up to No. 14 this week despite losses to St. Augustine and Seabreeze at the start of the season. Boone and Park Vista are still among seven undefeated teams. That group was trimmed by one when Christopher Columbus defeated Coral Gables last week.

Columbus jumps two spots to No. 6 on the win and Vero Beach’s 27-7 loss to Jupiter. Edgewater is No. 2 again, and North Miami Beach and Deerfield Beach both have eyes on that spot. Miami Central probably doesn’t deserve it after some close calls, but the team is 7-0.
