We’re between the normal Tuesday and Thursday games. So we’ll review what happened earlier this week and look ahead to what’s on tap this weekend. First, there are a host of key tournaments, including one hosted by Berkeley Prep. We’ve mentioned that one on another post, if you’re looking for more insight. But we haven’t mentioned some of the others. As such, enjoy these noteworthy weekend volleyball tournaments.
Seven teams—three-time defending champ Manatee, Saint Stephen’s, Bayshore, Bradenton Christian, Lakewood Ranch, Southeast and Braden River—will compete in the Manatee County Volleyball Tournament at Manatee Community College, according to this story from the Bradenton Herald.
South Fort Myers is on a roll. The Wolfpack improved to 11-1 with a 25-8, 25-16, 25-12 drubbing of Clewiston Tuesday in a District 4A-11 match. The Naples Daily News was there for the match and has the full story on one of the state’s top teams.
On Tuesday, Ocala Trinity Catholic improved to 12-2 with a 26-16, 25-21, 27-25 victory against St. John. Autumn Ankney and Taylor Belger combined for 20 kill in that one. You can read more on the match here.
an improved Deltona team dropped a four-game match at home to Spruce Creek. The Hawks are the better team at the moment, but Deltona has a rising star in junior Ashley Monico.
Also on Tuesday, Cardinal Mooney defeated Lakewood Ranch. The Cougars are now 9-5 behind the offensive leadership of Leah Schwartz and Carolyn Rush, who combined for 18 kills in the 25-17, 25-19, 25-14 win.
In 1A, the Bradenton Prep Patriots fought off Out-of-Door Acacemy for a 25-20, 18-25, 28-26, 25-27, 15-13 win. The Patriots are now 8-0 for the year, and Out-of-Door is 9-3. Christina Rigo and Mariangelo Macchiavello each had 18 kills, according to this story from the Bradenton Herald. As you’ll see from the story, it was an epic battle and the Patriots actually rallied to win.
Meanwhile, St. Stephen’s improved to 4-5 after defeating St. Petersburg Keswick Christian 25-15, 27-25, 25-15 on Tuesday. Juliana Hatcher had 10 kills for the winners.
