Cross Country Update
September 26th, 2007 Posted in Florida Running, Florida Cross Country, Cross Country, Florida Sports, High School SportsAs the weekend approaches so to do several cross country meets. Before we get to those, though, there’s a wonderful story in today’s Miami Herald about Coral Gables runner Alyssa Exposito. We must warn you, though, that your excuses for skipping that Saturday morning run are going to sound fairly lame now.
Lakeland Kathleen senior Steve Schertzer probably needs a rest, but he’s unlikely to take one even after he won the boys race at the Lake Gibson Invitational on Tuesday with a 17:27. The Lakeland Ledger has full coverage of the meet.
Last weekend, the Winter Haven girls team put an exclamation mark on a big win at the Winter Haven Invitational. They might not be the greatest of hosts after winning the first three spots. Leading the way was Amber Reeves, who finished in 21:28. Lindsay Short ran a 21:32, and Trenecia Henderson ran a 21:39, according to the Lakeland Ledger.
At the Edgewater Invitational, George Jenkins senior Cody Freeborn set the pace with a 17:21 to win the boys event. At the Calvary Classic in Palm Harbor, Lakeland Christian’s Mallory White led the way with a 20:58.
