Florida Football: Week 5 Rankings

As Week 5 gets under way, we have no changes at the top following Week 4. Most of the records are current, but some games that were postponed until Monday leave a few teams needing an update.

This week’s rankings were the toughest yet. Several teams at 3-1 and a few that are undefeated deserved spots in the rankings, but a few 3-1 teams didn’t make it due to a glut of teams that share the mark. As much as possible, 3-1 teams were considered based upon opponents, but it’s certainly not an exact science. In fact, there are several 2-2 teams that appear better than some of the unbeatens. For example, Graceville (2-2) is ranked above a 3-0 Hollywood Christian team in 1B simply because Graceville played well against good teams in its two losses.

This week should shake things up enough to make the bottom half of the rankings much easier to establish. Expect a few of the 3-1 squads to pick up another loss and create room for the 3-1 teams that didn’t make the rankings.

A few of the ranked teams are just one more win away from jumping much higher in the rankings. For example, Deltona has started 4-0 for the first time in the school’s history. Meanwhile, Ridge Community is 3-0 and could bust its way into the top 10 with another win.
