If a tree falls in the forest and nobody’s there to hear it, it can still make a sound if there’s a video camera or digital still camera able to capture the scene.

With football season kicking off in a matter of days, questions are pouring in about the particulars of content on www.localreplay.com. We’ll address some of them here.

What is a TeamCard and how does my high school team get one?
The short answer is that you already have one. Don’t believe us? Click here.

That’s right. We’ve been expecting you. While there may be some exceptions, particularly for high schools that are private or new to the surface of the planet, our web editors created a TeamCard for each of Florida’s high schools months ago in anticipation of our first season. If your team isn’t listed, let us know at support@localreplay.com, and we’ll fix the oversight.

Most likely, though, you’ll find your card without much trouble and be on your way to creating your own little portal at www.localreplay.com. And the best part is that each TeamCard, as well as each CoachCard and individual player StarCard takes all of the toiling out of the process. After going through our free and speedy registration process, you’ll be able to upload photos and video, even entire games, and you’ll have a chance to add content such as rosters, team and individual statistics and news.

We already have a team Web site. Why would we want another one?

If you already have one, you’re a step ahead of the game, but you haven’t sealed it up quite yet. Our TeamCard function allows our visitors to view your team’s site directly through our site, just like this one: South Rowan Football. Of course, a downside to those school sites is that they often don’t receive the constant attention that most coaches and players want. There’s often a process by which information is fed through a chain and only appears on the site when the responsible party is not playing Space Invaders on his cell phone. Around here, it’s so easy that anyone can build a TeamCard and update it with your most current information in a matter of seconds. You can also link your existing site to your LocalReplay site to take advantage of LR’s unlimited free photos and video uploads.

Where are the photos and video highlights from my high school football team’s game?
# Most of our videos and photos come from coaches, amateur photographers, parents and other football fans. Many of them love it here at www.localreplay.com because they finally have a way to upload their video for the world to see (Hi there, grandma! Watch this tackle! I put a hurting on this dude!). Just register and upload it. That’s part of the beauty of our site…it’s OUR site. We built it for you, and, as we grow, we’ll be listening to your needs and fine-tuning things to meet your wishes.

# We also have a growing network of professional and semi-professional photographers, videographers and media partners that will upload and link their content. Some will take you to their own photography Web sites, where you’ll have an opportunity to purchase prints of your team’s players that you’ll never know exist unless you check in week to week. If we know in advance that we’ll be receiving photo or video from a particular game, we’ll post a head’s up here on our blog.

What sort of equipment do I need to provide photos and video?
Today’s consumer-quality technology is mesmerizing in its performance capability. Sure, we’d all like to own a high-definition camera, and we’d love to watch a high school game with the same multi-camera coverage we’re used to seeing on the tube, but don’t under-estimate what you can do with today’s consumer digital cameras and camcorders. Click on the Team Cards below, and you’ll see what our own consumer-quality technology generated in July at the AAU basketball national championship.

My high school team doesn’t have anyone taking photos and videos, but we still want content for our team’s site, our player’s StarCards, and our FanCards. Can you send someone to my game?

We lack the staff to cover every game, but we appreciate requests. While we might not be able to cover everything we’d like to cover, we’ll give special consideration to teams requesting coverage. Most likely, though, there’s a parent or fan with a camera who could do the job. Your best bet for guaranteeing content is to make sure your team and its fans are are aware of that

# They can upload to Local Replay for free;
# It’s easy—like attaching a file to an e-mail;
# We keep the content up on your pages forever—next year’s team gets its own TeamCard, your 2007 team gets to keep its card the way it is.
# You control the content—you can move it to your personal StarCard, FanCard, etc.

I hope that provides a glimpse of the possibilities this season, and don’t forget that our own editors will be updating our blog weekly with their own takes on the biggest games, the best players and the best teams. We’ll have weekend score reports, weekly Player of the Week announcements and links to the top newspaper stories from all corners of the Sunshine State. So charge up your batteries, adjust your lens and dust off your camera bags and become a part of the action during Florida Football 2007.
